Careless Driving Summons For Woman Who Crashed into New Store

A driver pulling away put the car in drive, instead of reverse, and drove into a newly-opened Manalapan supermarket.

A 49-year old Manalapan woman who put her car in drive instead of reverse and crashed into the new Key Fresh & Natural Supermarket at Yorktown Plaza on the afternoon of June 27, leaving two people with minor injuries, was issued a summons for careless driving.

Though her 2004 Jeep Liberty did not come in contact with victims, police said building debris caused injuries after the impact. A 20-year old man from Staten Island complained of pain in his chest and was transported to Centra State. A Toms River woman, 56, complained of leg pain but refused medical treatment.

An article in the Asbury Park Press identifies the victims as employees, and includes a startling photograph of the crash
