What is a rain barrel? A rain barrel is placed under a gutter’s downspout next to a house to collect rain water from the roof. The barrel holds about 50 gallons of water which can be used to water your lawn, flowers, shrubs, and trees. Collecting rainwater can save money on your water bill, conserves water, and helps to prevent basement flooding. By collecting rainwater, homeowners are also helping to reduce flooding and pollution in local waterways.
