Generator Causes Fire At Manalapan High School
A generator that had been running all night overheated and caused a fire on the roof of the building Thursday morning.

MANALAPAN, NJ — Even though Manalapan High School was closed today, there was an issue at the school: A generator that had been running all night overheated and caused a fire on the roof of the building, police said.
Police and fire units were called to the high school at 8:40 a.m. Thursday after someone called 911. Monmouth County Fire Marshal Rick Hogan determined that the fire originated from the generator, which had been running all night as the result of a power loss from the storm.
An 18-foot exhaust pipe became heated and ignited the roofing material, causing the fire, he said. Manalapan High School is part of the Freehold Regional High School District, which closed all schools Thursday so no students were in the building.
