Man Threatened At Store, Online Survey Scam: Manalapan PD Blotter

On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at approximately 9:21 p.m., a physical altercation occurred between a 56-year-old resident of Freehold and a 55-year-old resident of Manalapan in the Knob Hill Development. There were no criminal complaints signed and there were no injuries reported as a result of this incident. Patrolman Jeremy Slad handled the report.

On Monday, April 5, 2021, at approximately 3:50 p.m., a 19-year-old Manalapan resident responded to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters to report a fraud that was committed via email resulting in the loss of approximately $380.00. Patrolman Christopher Oleksy took the report, which is pending further investigation.

On Monday, April 5, 2021, at approximately 3:10 p.m., a 56-year-old Jackson, NJ resident reported being threatened by a 74-year-old Manalapan resident while at the Welsh Farms convenience store located at 130 Route 33 in Manalapan. No complaints were signed as a result of this incident. Patrolman Mathew Porricelli handled the report.

On Sunday, April 4, 2021, at approximately 10:02 a.m., Patrolman Jeremy Slad conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 9 South in Manalapan. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Gilberto Orellano, a 37-year-old unmarried male resident of Elizabeth, who is employed as a contractor, was found to have warrants issued for his arrest by the Kenilworth Municipal Court in the amount of $300.00 and the Elizabeth Municipal Court in the amount of $150.00. Mr. Orellano was placed under arrest and transported to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail. Patrolman Jeremy Slad was the arresting officer.

On Saturday, April 4, 2021, at 4:32 p.m., employees of the Wegmans Supermarket, located at 55 Route 9 South in Manalapan reported a shoplifting incident where approximately $1,526.00 in merchandise was removed from the store. Patrolman James Guarino and Patrolman Charles Alaimo responded to the incident, which is pending further investigation.

On Friday, April 2, 2021, at 1:15 p.m., a 31-year-old Manalapan resident reported being the victim of a fraud. The victim listed an item for sale on an online website and subsequently received a payment in the form of a check for $1,650.00 more than the asking price. This payment was found to be fraudulent and the victim reported a loss of $2,650.00. Patrolman Anthony Cascella handled the initial report, which is pending further investigation.

On Thursday, April 1, 2021, at approximately 3:35 p.m., a 90-year-old Manalapan resident responded to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters to report that a line of credit was fraudulently opened up in his name. No monetary loss was reported as a result of this incident. Patrolman James Guarino took the report.

On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 4:00 p.m., a 36-year-old Manalapan resident reported being the victim of an online survey scam. The victim received a text message to complete an online survey and was mailed a check in the amount of $2,950.00. The victim was instructed to keep $450.00 as payment and then purchase $2,500.00 in Nike gift cards. The victim was instructed to send the serial numbers for each of the cards upon purchase of the cards and was later notified by their bank that the check was fraudulent. Patrolman Matthew Meyler took the report, which is pending further investigation.
