Manalapan And Freehold Rt. 33 Paving Project To Begin Monday

Beginning July 8 and continuing for the next two months, the DOT will close the right lane and shoulder on Rt. 33 eastbound in Manalapan.

MANALAPAN, NJ — The NJ DOT announced on July 3 that there will be paving project along more than four miles of Rt. 33 in both directions between Rt. 527/Millhurst Road/Sweetmans Lane in Manalapan and Howell Road in Freehold.

Beginning at 8 p.m., Monday, July 8, until 6 a.m. the next morning, and continuing Monday through Friday for approximately two months, NJDOT’s contractor, Black Rock Enterprises, LLC, is scheduled to close the right lane and shoulder on Rt. 33 eastbound, beginning just east of Rt. 527/Millhurst Road/Sweetmans Lane in Manalapan. The project will include curb work, and storm water grate and inlet upgrades and replacements. All lanes will be restored each afternoon. At least one lane of travel and access to all businesses will be maintained at all times during the project.

Temporary overnight lane closures and traffic shifts will be required upon completion of the shoulder work to begin milling and paving in both directions. NJDOT will provide advance notice of any lane closures.

The $7.2 million federally-funded Route 33 pavement preservation project will extend the pavement life, improve safety and enhance ride quality for motorists. All ramps within the project limits will be resurfaced. Substandard inlets and curbs will be upgraded or replaced; segments of the storm water drainage grating system will be upgraded; and rumble strips will be applied. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer in 2020.
