It is the 24th NCAA appearance for the Rutgers women’s basketball team, and the first since 2012, according to a Rutgers news release. It is the first NCAA Tournament for most of the team, except seniors Betnijah Laney, Syessence Davis and Christa Evans. They were freshmen when Rutgers played in the tournament in 2012, the news release said.
The Rutgers roster includes three Jersey Shore residents: Davis, a graduate of Neptune High School, Evans, a graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, and sophomore Alex Alfano, an Atlantic Highlands resident and graduate of Red Bank Catholic.
