Disc golf was created in 1976 and is very popular in some parts of the country. But last year there were only nine 18-hole disc-golf courses in the state, according the East Brunswick Sentinel. The New Jersey Disc Golf website has a list of 20 nine- and 18-hole public courses in the state, including one at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and another at the Manalapan Recreation Center in Manalapan.
The game requires players to aim for a low score by tossing plastic discs or Frisbees into a basket.
