Middletown officials presented the key to the township to a Middletown native, who now plays for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Trevor van Reimsdyk, a 2009 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in the Lincroft section of town, returned to his hometown last week with the Stanley Cup.

The defenseman was at the Middletown Arts Center, where he posed for photos with fans and received the key to the township.

The Monmouth County Board of Freeholders named the day after him to celebrate his visit, a township news release said.

Van Riemsdyk played hockey at CBA, then went to New Hampshire to play junior hockey.

In a tradition that dates back to 1995, each member of a winning team gets personal possession of the Stanley Cup for a day, a township news release said.

James van Riemsdyk, who plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs, also came along for the visit last week.
