Two Manalapan Detectives Promoted to Sergeant

The Manalapan Township Committee approved two new police hirings and two police promotions.

The Manalapan Township Committee adopted four resolutions promoting two police officers and hiring two new full-time officers last week.

Two of the resolutions promoted Detective Michael Hoppock and Detective Daniel Carey to Sergeant effective August 1. The other two resolutions were for the hiring of Christopher Makwinski and Christopher Oleksy as full-time members of the department.

Makwinski and Oleksy were hired as part-time Special II officers in December 2012 for the purpose of patrolling Manalapan and Englishtown schools in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

Committeeman Ryan Green was the only dissenting vote on all four resolutions. All of the other committee members voted "yes" to each resolution. Green told Patch that he did not wish to comment on his votes regarding the police hirings and promotions.

Sergeant Leonard Maltese also took his oath of office at the last meeting, as well. Maltese was promoted to Sergeant from Detective in April of this year.
