Over 14,000 Without Power In Marlboro Tuesday Evening

175,928 customers are without electricity in Monmouth County, according to JCP&L. Over 14,000 residences are out of power in Marlboro.

MARLBORO, NJ – As of 10 p.m. on Tuesday, over 175,000 customers are without electricity in Monmouth County, according to JCP&L. Marlboro has been one of the hardest hit, leaving 14,602 customers (more than 85% of Marlboro customers) in the dark.

Another 3,589 residents were left out of power in neighboring Colts Neck, according to the energy authority.

In a Tuesday morning update from mayor Jon Hornik, the township remains under a National Weather Service Storm Warning until 4:15 p.m. with an added threat of isolated tornadoes.

In advance of the storm, Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency earlier Tuesday morning. The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management urges residents to stay home and off the roads unless travel is necessary. Read more: Marlboro Prepares For Tropical Storm Isaias

Prepare for tropical storm-force winds of 45 to 55 mph with gusts up to 75 mph. Secure anything that can be blown away.

1-3 inches of rainfall is expected. A flash flood watch is in effect: Expect flooding in low-lying areas that typically do so.

The mayor reminds residents to:

  • Secure all outdoor furniture (tables, chairs, outdoor fixtures and tents), including any items that can become dangerous projectiles during a storm
  • Keep electronics charged in the event of a power outage
  • Have a flashlight with new batteries at the ready
  • Relocate valuables from low-lying regions prone to flooding
