Police are asking the public for more information after a fatal bicycle accident in New Jersey this weekend.

The accident happened on Saturday at 7:12 PM when the Marlboro Township Police Department received a report of an injured bicyclist on Pleasant Valley Road in the area of Conover Road.

Upon arrival, police discovered an unconscious adult male suffering from serious trauma related injuries. The bicyclist was transported to Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel Township by Marlboro First Aid Squad where he was pronounced dead soon after arriving, police said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. The initial investigation indicates that no motor vehicles were involved in the accident and it appears that the bicyclist lost control of the bicycle for an unknown reason, police said.

Pleasant Valley Road was closed to vehicle traffic between Conover Road and Mockingbird Lane during the investigation.

The identity of the bicyclist is being withheld at this time pending notification of the next of kin.
