Holt Is Still No Cory Booker In Second Web Ad

Congressman touts his big brains and progressive voting record in new web ad.

Rush Holt is still no Cory Booker and the congressman continues to tout that fact in a second web ad, released Wednesday, in support of his U.S. Senate bid.

Titled  “Orbit,’’ the 85-second ad plays up Holt’s rocket scientist – or, more precisely, his astrophysicist, credentials – as well as his progressive voting record in the U.S. House of Representatives, where Holt has held a seat for 14 years.

The ad features various supporters singing Holt’s praises and using the phrase “I’m with Rush.’’

Like in his first ad, Holt continues to separate himself from Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who enjoys a comfortable lead in the packed race to the special Democratic primary election on Aug. 13 in the race to for the U.S. Senate seat of late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

But unlike his first ad, the current spot only mentions Booker briefly, spending the majority of the time talking about Holt and his voting record.

“I like Cory Booker,’’ one supporter says, “But for Senate, I’m with Rush.’’

U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone and state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver are also seeking the Democratic nomination.

One of the speakers in the ad mentions the high rating given to Holt’s voting record by the League of Conservation Voters, a nationwide environmental group.

The group has endorsed two candidates making runs for U.S. Senate, in Massachusetts and Hawaii. They have not endorsed any candidate in the New Jersey race.
