COLTS NECK, NJ - More than 7 inches of snow fell in some parts of Monmouth County on Wednesday and Thursday as a “major” nor'easter hit New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service. Many residents were still digging out Thursday morning and waiting for snowplows to come down their streets (see town-by-town snow amounts below).

The storm that hit New Jersey shut down trains and buses and caused crashes and other problems. More than 12,000 power outages were reported across the state, and more than 200 crashes were reported.

According to JCP&L, there were isolated power outages reported Wednesday night in Hazlet, Red Bank, Rumson, Asbury Park and the tip of Sandy Hook.

Earlier this week, the National Weather Service noted that the nor’easter was expected to be fierce enough to bring down power lines, especially in Monmouth County. The agency also noted that moderate tidal flooding as a result of the storm was likely with Wednesday evening and Thursday morning's high tide.

Patch has been closely monitoring the weather as the state deals with accidents and other issues across New Jersey, such as ice. Read more: NJ Nor'easter Updates: Closures, Power Outages, New Snow Totals

Before the storm, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders sent out initial crews from the county's Department of Public Works & Engineering to pre-treat critical areas to prevent snow and ice from bonding to the road surface.

"We ask our residents and commuters to stay home if possible, use caution on the roadways, give yourself extra time to get to your destination, and extend distance to snow and ice control trucks," said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone Wednesday.

JCP&L also sent out extra crews into New Jersey from Ohio to assist with outages. If a power outage does occur, you can report the outage to First Energy at 1-888-544-4877 (1-888-LIGHTSS).
