Marlboro Farmers Market Extended By Six Weeks: Mayor

Due to record attendance and a need for safe activities amid the pandemic, the Marlboro Farmers Market will remain open until late October.

MARLBORO, NJ - Citing a record year for attendance, as well as a need for local, safe activities amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Marlboro mayor Jon Hornik announced that the Marlboro Farmers Market will extend its season by six weeks.

Although typically designated as an annual summer tradition, the weekly Sunday staple will now continue through Oct. 25.

“The market has become a weekly destination for residents and those in surrounding towns. People want local, fresh food and produce, and especially during this time, the outdoor experience, the variety and quality has really resonated with our residents,” Hornik said.

“The decision to extend the season was based not only on the market’s popularity, but also on the unique situation presented by COVID-19. The market offers an outdoor shopping environment and people feel safe enjoying it with their families. It feels normal during abnormal times.”

Safety precautions amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will still be in effect throughout the season. The Marlboro Farmers Market requires both shoppers and vendors to wear face coverings while in the market space. Vendor booths will be spaced apart, capacity will be monitored and samples will not be permitted. Social distancing is required.

Located at 444 Route 520 just west of Route 79, the market stands at the site of the former 56-acre Stattel Farm, which was acquired by the township in 2017. Products available weekly include seasonal fruits and vegetables, eggs, flowers, meats, cheeses, herbs, pickles, sauces, baked goods and dog treats.

“We started working on the purchase of this property when I took office in 2008,” Hornik said. “Located in the center of town, between the municipal complex, the recreation center and Marlboro High School - the very heart of our community - made it vitally important to preserve.”

“Using this land for our market really honors the tradition of the Stattel Farm as well as Marlboro’s roots as an agricultural community,” Hornik concluded.

The Marlboro Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine) until October 25. For more information, click here.
