Marlboro Gets Grant For Flooding On Pleasant Valley Road

The grant money will be used to secure the rapidly eroding foundation of Pleasant Valley between Igoe Road and Rt. 34.

MARLBORO TOWNSHIP, NJ — Marlboro Twp. received a $420,236 FEMA grant to address the ongoing flooding that occurs on Pleasant Valley Road.

Officially called the “Streambank Stabilization at Pleasant Valley Road” project, the grant was announced July 2. It will officially be approved at the Marlboro council meeting on Aug. 15.

The grant money will be used to secure the rapidly eroding foundation of Pleasant Valley between Igoe Road and Rt. 34. It remains unclear when exactly work will begin.

The Pleasant Valley Road project was identified in the Township’s multi-year capital plan.

Marlboro previously secured a $250,000 grant from FEMA to purchase an emergency generator at the Recreation Center and $250,000 for emergency soil stabilization at Big Brook.

“We understand that the key to preparation is long-term planning identifying vulnerabilities in advance of extreme weather events," said Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik. "This project was identified as a critical need and it clearly fit FEMA’s objective of ‘Pre- Disaster Mitigation.'"
