Marlboro Middle Schools Go Remote Due To Tech Issues

Students at Marlboro Middle School and Memorial Middle School will complete remote-only learning next week, according to the superintendent.

MARLBORO, NJ - Middle school students at Marlboro Township Schools will be completing their classwork exclusively online next week due to technical issues, according to school officials.

In a Thursday letter addressed to district parents, Superintendent of Schools Eric Hibbs detailed technical issues that impacted middle school students on their first few days in class.

“Due to what we learned yesterday, a difficult decision had to be made,” the superintendent continued. “As a result, all district middle school instruction (Memorial and Middle) will continue to be remote until further notice.”

An update posted to the district website describes “district-wide pockets of performance issues with Zoom.” According to the website, it is believed that new staff Chromebooks (specifically the latest operating system update) contributed to issues with audio and video.

"We realize that problems are going to occur, and we realize you will need some help. Our teachers can't stop teaching to address technical issues. Please email the helpline, and we will help you as soon as we can," the update reads.

According to an Asbury Park Press report, Hibbs will be unveiling his Phase 2 school reopening plan next Tuesday, which is slated to include more days of in-person instruction.

Marlboro Township students, which range from kindergarten through eighth grade, began the school year on Sept. 8 under a hybrid model that saw 50 percent of pupils attend school on alternating days.

“As soon as practicable, we will reevaluate the situation and make appropriate adjustments to middle school student schedules to resume in-person instruction,” the superintendent wrote.
