Marlboro Schools Supt. Wants Costlier and Lengthier Contract
Cost of Contract after 5-years: $337,006.00 Dollars; District Proposes to Raise Tax Levy 2% amid School State Aid Cut
Marlboro, NJ--2/10/2021
Dr. Eric Hibbs, superintendent of the Marlboro K-8 school district, has submitted a proposed contract, to be delivered to the Board of Education for formal approval.
The contract-- a 5-year deal-- provides continuous 2% pay increases from year #1 through year #5, bringing the total contract cost after 5-years to $337,006. This amount includes individualized fringe benefits including increased percentages for Merit Bonuses-- going from 11.98% under the old contract to 14.99% of total salary; taxpayer paid health insurance premiums; travel expenses; phone expenses; professional development fees, and association dues.
The new proposed contract will commence on July 1, 2021. It comes amid a pandemic causing the school district to shutdown at times, offering virtual learning, then later transitioning to half day learning sessions.
Mr. Hibbs' current contract is not due to expire until June 30, 2022. Hampering the district is the fact State aid has been cut over 8%.
The school district is proposing to raise the tax levy 2% along with utilizing "banked cap." School enrollment has been on a 15% steady decline since 2011, and Dr. Hibbs is currently under the cloud of an ethics violation, currently being played out before the State Office of Administrative Law. Those charges have been filed by a former Board member.
The Marlboro Board of Education will meet virtually on February 16th to hear public comment on Dr. Hibbs' proposed contract.
