‘Minor Flooding’ Possible In Marlboro As Zeta Remnants Move To NJ
Heavy rains, wind gusts and minor flooding may be possible Thursday into Friday, according to Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik.
MARLBORO, NJ - Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik addressed the possibility of flooding and heavy rains in the township on Thursday as remnants of Tropical Storm Zeta traverses the Garden State Thursday and Friday.
In a statement emailed to residents on Oct. 29, Hornik noted that the Marlboro Office of Emergency Management will be monitoring the weather as the day unfolds.
“Heavy rains may produce some ponding of water and gusty winds are possible. The first widespread freeze of the season is likely Friday night into Saturday morning,” Hornik said.
“The rain will taper off Friday, but some minor flooding is possible. To allow rainwater to run freely to the sewers, if you have a sewer inlet on or near your property, please take a moment to ensure that leaves are not piled near the inlet and remove debris that may have gathered blocking the grates.”

Last week, Hornik testified before the state senate regarding JCP&L’s response to outages amid Tropical Storm Isaias earlier this year.
Prior to his testimony, Hornik penned a letter to the Board of Public Utilities President Joe Fiordaliso, copying Governor Murphy, State Senators, Congressman Pallone and representatives from JCP&L.

"We understand that it takes time to assess and allocate resources, but days after Isaias passed JCP&L did not have answers,” Hornik said on Oct. 21. “On the first day following Isaias, 90 percent of our residents without power. Day two 80 percent and day three, 70 percent. It was not until day four that power was to be restored to just over half our residents."
In the Thursday morning statement, Hornik reminded residents that rain and wind can lead to power outages. Outages can be reported to JCP&L by calling (888) 544-4877 via text at this link.
All downed wires should be treated as live and dangerous and be reported to the Marlboro Division of Police at (732) 536-0100.
