Part Of 34 In Colts Neck Repaved, Pleasant Valley Rd. Stabilized
Rt. 34 in Colts Neck will be closed between Phalanx Rd. to Willow Brook and Marlboro received $400K to fix flood-prone Pleasant Valley Rd.
COLTS NECK, NJ — Starting Wednesday night, July 10 a stretch of Rt. 34 through Colts Neck will be closed for repaving.
Rt. 34 in Colts Neck will be shut down between mileposts 14 and 16.22, which is from Flock Rd./Phalanx Road to Willow Brook Rd. The news was announced by state Senator Vin Gopal, Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling and Assemblywoman Joann Downey, who all represent New Jersey's 11th district, which includes Colts Neck.
The state DOT says construction will take place at night, allowing residents to still use Rt. 34 during the morning and evening commutes. The work will include milling of the roadway and resurfacing with hot mix asphalt. The project will also raise low inlets and manholes to improve ride quality for local drivers and extend the life of the pavement.

And in some more road-repair news for the area, Congressman Frank Pallone announced this week that FEMA gave a $400,000 grant to Marlboro Township to stabilize flood-prone Pleasant Valley Road. The grant money will be used to secure the rapidly eroding foundation of Pleasant Valley between Igoe Road and Rt. 34.
“This announcement is great news for my district and Marlboro," Rep. Pallone said. "My constituents remember all too well the effects of destruction that major weather events, like Superstorm Sandy, can have."

“This project was identified as a critical need and it clearly fit FEMA’s objective of ‘Pre-Disaster Mitigation,’" said Marlboro Mayor Jonathan Hornik. "Maintaining infrastructure is an expensive proposition and we must carefully balance our needs with the price tag. With this in mind, we will continue to leverage our AAA bond rating to obtain funding at the lowest rates possible, and aggressively pursue outside sources of funding for critical projects.”
