Chester Paving Delayed Another Round Because Of Weather

Chester Township's "micro-paving" project has a new tentative schedule set, with the latest delay from Tropical Storm Elsa's rainstorms.

CHESTER, NJ — After having had a couple of rain delays, Chester Township’s “micro paving” project - with a surface applicant similar to a driveway sealant - is tentatively starting up again for some streets on Monday.

Certain portions of the original paving project expected to begin on 15 streets on and after June 28, have been halted a couple of times since, because of recent thunderstorms.

The weather can cause curing issues on the road surface, with the township’s Department of Public Works Superintendent Craig Reiner having previously said it can take up to three hours for a street to set after being micro paved.

On July 2, the township postponed micro paving on Frederick Place and Benjamin Road because of thunderstorm threats, deferring those streets until last Tuesday, July 6.

With the arrival of Tropical Storm Elsa this past Thursday, the schedule changed again to Friday.

After Elsa’s effects dumped more rain, the township had to cancel micro paving on Friday and set the new schedule tentatively as follows:

Reiner had previously stated while the project is happening on each streets, residents can park their cars away from the work zones, then walk back and forth to their homes. If micro paving lands on a Wednesday or Friday, it’s suggested residents on those streets put their garbage and recycling out no later that morning than 6 a.m.

After micro paving happens, Reiner also said residents can’t landscape and heavy truck traffic isn’t allowed on streets until after sundown that day, because it can damage the newly-treated road surface.
