Chester's Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe To Close Permanently

CHESTER, NJ — The Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe endured an eventful 11 years, surviving Cupcake Wars and natural disasters and making it for more than a year through the pandemic. But the bakery won't last much longer, closing permanently Aug. 15.

Cheryl Brown founded The Sweet Spot in 2010, turning her hobby into a career without any culinary training. Brown announced the upcoming closure on the shop's Facebook page, citing the struggle of balancing motherhood and business ownership.

A prospective business looked at the 57 Main St. storefront, Brown says. But she touted the location to anyone who might be interested.

"We are the center of the walking part of town with ample parking both in front of the shop and in our private parking lot," Brown wrote. "Please let me know if you or someone you know is interested and I would be happy to put them in contact with my landlord."

The bakery won top prize on Food Network's "Cupcake Wars," survived Superstorm Sandy and Tropical Storm Isaias and at one time created the official Patch cupcake.

"I feel I can best support my family and my business by focusing my attention on custom orders," Brown said. "This decision was not made lightly, but it was done knowing how our community has supported us for the past 11 years and with the hope you will continue to do so."
