I am seeking re-election to the Board of Education for Mendham Borough because I feel this is an unprecedented and pivotal time in our district and continuity is key. I want to continue to be a part of the strong leadership. The district has been a pioneer in navigating its way through the ever-changing landscape presented to us this year. The Board, Administration & Staff, in spite of the challenges, have consistently put the education and welfare of the children first and foremost. I am extremely proud of our district and wish to continue to be a part of it.
2. The single most pressing issue facing our school district and what you intend to do about it:

The single most pressing issue facing our school district is providing our children with the best possible education in the safest way possible while being fiscally responsible in an unstable economic environment, and this is what I intend to do about it. As the Chair of the Finance & Facilities Committee this year, I have consistently made decisions in-line with our mission. I plan on continuing to make and support decisions which will be in the best interest of the children while being fiscally responsible.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking to serve on the school board? If unopposed, describe the issues that define your campaign platform.
There are four people on the ballot, three of which are incumbents. The critical difference is experience. I believe continuity is paramount during these times so that the philosophy that allowed us to be one of the first districts to go to distance learning without skipping one day of school as well as being one of the first districts to return to in-seat learning is maintained.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you will be effective on the school board?
I have served on other boards and have been a support person to boards. I understand the role of a board member. I also have 30+ years of management and business experience which brings a particular perspective to the running of a school district. I am a mother of two and although they are grown men, I understand the desire to have your children receive the best possible education while maintaining their physical, emotional and psychological well-being.
Recovering from COVID-19 is going to put a significant financial strain on the schools. With so much of our tax dollars going to support them. But cuts will still be needed. Where do you see room for budget improvement?
What things will you go to the mat to defend? Mendham Borough has taken precautions along the way since last spring in preparation of anticipated state aid cuts. We have deferred various capital improvements without risking the safety of the children. We have been able to reallocate funds for the purchase of PPE equipment, space dividers and completion of our 1:1 chromebook initiative so that all students have access to individual chromebooks. I will always "go to the mat" to keep our children safe. Not only do we face the threat of COVID-19 but sadly in these times, we have to mitigate the risk of physical harm to the schools and children.
The COVID-19 pandemic has put into focus the issue of mandatory vaccinations. If such a movement gains traction, where do you stand on the issue for your community?
I think it is too soon to tell. I would want to evaluate the effectiveness of the vaccines before taking a stand on whether or not they should be mandatory.
Since the change to this year's election was announced by Murphy, there have been many questions about how the process will work. Below is some further reading on the Nov. 3 election process:
A primarily vote-by-mail election means a lot of changes to election day. See what you can expect this November.
Those not needing an ADA compliant booth will need a provisional ballot to vote in-person. Here is what that will look like.
There was language on the primary ballots asked voters certify they requested the ballot, even if they didn't.
Voters wondering how their signatures are checked before the upcoming election can see the process for themselves.
