Hazardous Weather Outlook In North Jersey: Storms, Rain, Heat
Thunderstorms with heavy rain are in the forecast for Tuesday, as a heat advisory remains in place. Here's the latest forecast:
NORTH JERSEY — Thunderstorms with heavy rain are in the forecast for Tuesday, as a heat advisory remains in place through 8 p.m. Heat index values of 95 to 102 degrees are expected in the region.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of thunderstorms across the North Jersey region starting around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Some of the storms could produce small hail and heavy rain.
The threat of rain and storms continues throughout the week, with thunderstorms in the Wednesday and Thursday forecast. Showers could linger into Friday.

Conditions will cool down slightly Wednesday, with a high in the upper 80s predicted. By Friday, the high will be in the upper 60s.
The rain should clear by the weekend. Sunshine and temperatures in the 70s are in the Saturday forecast

For Tuesday, forecasters are warning to take precautions when being exposed to the heat. "The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity levels may result in heat-related health issues, especially for the elderly and for those with a pre-existing health condition," the heat advisory says.
The first heat wave of the summer has brought record-breaking heat to the Northeast. Newark, hit 97 degrees on Sunday, breaking a previous record for that day by 3 degrees.
"Temperature departures will average 12 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit above normal across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic through Tuesday," said AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 87. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of showers between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday: A slight chance of showers before 11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m.. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Wednesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m.. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 a.m.. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
Friday Night: A chance of showers before 2 a.m.. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
