Kids’ Summer Reading, Writing Challenges At Mendham Libraries

MENDHAM, NJ — Both the Mendham Borough and Township libraries are hosting summer "Tails and Tales" reading programs for kids and teens, with prizes possible for each age group for fulfilled challenges.

The Borough’s Tails and Tales program for kids through age 11 is underway through July 31. Kids who read each day through the end of the challenge can receive raffle tickets and then be in the running for a prize. Kids who sign up for Tails and Tales by Friday can also be entered to win a $25 gift card to the Mendham Creamery.

Teens who participate in Borough Library summer reading program for ages 12 to 18 and log in what they’ve read, can also be in the running to win gift cards to either the Creamery, Mendham Bagel or Simple Coffee.

There’s additionally the Tails and Tales writing contest, with the Borough Library seeking short stories about animals or animals between 500 to 1,000 words. Click here for full contest rules. The stories are due to the library by Friday, July 23 and can be emailed to mnbwritingcontest@gmail.com. The library plans to announce winners in August.

The Mendham Township Library is also hosting its Tails and Tales program, with the summer reading log for kids here. Parents should register their child with the library in person or by email at programs@mendhamtwplib.org. Once their log is completed every week, it can be brought to the library for a prize.

For the teen Tails and Tales at the Township Library, for grades 6 to 12, teens can be signed up at the library’s circulation desk, then get the reading log and bingo board. For questions, parents should contact programs@mendhamtwplib.org.
