Last Dash Of Summer Fun At Labor Day Carnival In Mendham

Mendham Labor Day festivities is an annual tradition that goes back to 1943.

A tradition that spans over 70 years is returning to Mendham this weekend, providing fun for all. The annual Labor Day carnival will be held in Mendham beginning tonight and through the weekend, and the festivities will be capped on Monday with the Labor Day Parade and fireworks.

The annual carnival, sponsored and run by the Pastime Club, is a massive event featuring rides, games, and food. Over 200 members of the Pastime Club will be manning the posts, in all game and food operations. Outside vendors will operate the rides.

The parade on Monday, sponsored by the Mendham Borough, will march up Main Street, ending at Borough Field. Several local Fire Departments will march in the Mendham Labor Day parade and they'll even hold a Hose Competition, where different departments will showcase their firehose skills.

At the end of the carnival festivities on Monday, the mayor will draw the winning ticket for the 50/50 raffle, which is operated by the Pastime Club. The prize pool has ballooned to $50,000 in recent years, so it's a good buy for festival goers, with statistically better odds than the state lottery. The club's share of the proceeds will be used, as it has been in the past, for funding youth athletics in the community. The Pastime Club is the community’s single largest financial supporter of youth athletic programs in the Mendhams.

The carnival runs from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. On Labor Day, the carnival is open from mid-morning through 9:00 p.m., at which point the mayor will draw the winning ticket for the 50/50 raffle and the fireworks show begins.
