Main Street Speed Reduction Being Considered In Chester Boro
Do you think the speed limit should be lowered? Take Patch's poll here.
CHESTER BOROUGH, NJ — Do you think the speed on Main Street is a problem in Chester Borough? Some officials do, and that's why a speed limit reduction is being considered.
The current speed limit on Main Street in the Borough is currently 30 miles per hour, but the mayor and council would like to see that lowered to 25 miles per hour. Morris County transit officials will put a speed radar along Main Street in the next several weeks to see if reducing the speed is a good idea.
Resident reactions to a Facebook post announcing the potential change were mixed.

"Where on Main Street? I hope we are only talking about the area in front of the stores? In front of Redwoods and into town it is also 30 mph and that may also be considered 'Main Street,'" one commentor said in part.
"25 mph right in front of the stores is a good idea. Once it opens up in the post office area, back up to 30 is fine," added another.
