Mendham Township Police Warn Of Mailbox Scams
Police warn criminals are targeting homes where the mail flag is up.
MENDHAM, NJ - Criminals are always trying finding new ways to scam hardworking people, and it seems that they have found one, according to the Mendham Township Police.
The criminals are targeting mailboxes, with the outgoing mail flag up, in an attempt to intercept checks. They will then wash the check and remove the payment info from it and issue a new one that they will cash from your account.
"Keep an eye on your mailbox if you are sending any type of payments out, and if possible, pay online or by phone to avoid this type of scam," police said. "As always, if you see anything suspicious, let us know right away."
