Mendham Township, NEW JERSEY (May 18, 2021) – The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) promotes the study and teaching of the Spanish and Portuguese languages. Every year the AATSP sponsors a Poster Contest that is open to K–12 Spanish and Portuguese students whose teachers are current AATSP members. On Monday, May 17, 2021, the AATSP announced the winners of the competition for this year, including Claire Stolarski, an eighth-grade student at Mendham Township Middle School. Claire's poster for the AATSP National Poster Contest won Second Place in the Nation in the middle school hand-drawn division.

“This is an incredible achievement,” explained Mrs. Amanda Porter, Spanish Teacher at Mendham Township Middle School. “Claire’s picture will be featured on the AATSP website and may be selected for other publications. We are so very proud of her for representing our school nationally in such a positive way! She is an incredibly talented student.”

The AATSP promotes the study and teaching of Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian, and other related languages, literatures, and cultures at all educational levels. The posters are a demonstration of student understanding of the importance and use for learning new languages. Judging is conducted by the Poster Contest Committee and the Board of Directors.
