Drag, Butkus Prevail In Chester Township Republican Primary

CHESTER, NJ — In Chester Township's contested Republican primary Tuesday night, incumbent Tim Drag and newcomer John Butkus were declared the winners, prevailing over a third candidate, Thomas A. Grego, per unofficial results.

Who will finally take Chester Township’s two council seats will be decided in November, when incumbent Councilman Brian Curley plans to jump back into the race on the independent ticket.

In Chester Borough's primary both Republican incumbents, Kyle Holman and Christopher Heil, ran unopposed.

No Democrats filed petitions for the primary for either the township or borough races. There were, however, 10 Democrat write-in votes for the township and 4 for the borough.

Here are the real-time results for Chester's Township's elections with 5 of 5 districts reporting:

Chester Township Council (two seats up for election)

  • Tim Drag - 503 votes
  • John Butkus - 541 votes
  • Thomas A. Grego - 146 votes
  • Write-in - 8 votes

Here are the real-time results for Chester's Borough's elections with 1 of 1 districts reporting:

Chester Borough Council (two seats up for election)

  • Kyle Holman - 73
  • Christopher Heil - 75
  • Write-in - 3 votes

The results of all of these races will be official once the Morris County Clerk’s Office certifies each of them, after all mail-in ballots are tallied.
