Private Screening: Here's How To Rent A Movie Theater In NJ

Those who miss the matinee experience but are worried about the crowds can grab the place all to themselves.

NEW JERSEY - Those who miss the movie matinee experience but are worried about the crowds during the COVID-19 pandemic can have the place all to themselves by renting select AMC theaters.

The program was piloted in theaters in other states while New Jersey businesses were shuttered. When it proved successful, officials brought it to the Garden State this month.

Those interested can rent the theater the same way they would buy tickets online through the website and each screening can hold up to 20 people. For what AMC has dubbed "fan favorites" the price is $99 plus tax. Currently, that includes movies like "The Polar Express," "Frozen," "Gremlins," and "Elf."

Those interested in new movies can screen "Freaky," "The Last Vermeer" and "The Croods: A New Age" for $249.

As part of the AMC Safe & Clean initiative, private movie showings can accommodate 1-20 total guests (host included), so the auditorium can remain at 40 percent capacity (or less based on municipality guidelines), leaving plenty of space for social distancing, officials said.
