Severe Weather Thursday In North Jersey: Latest Timing, Forecast
Severe weather is in the forecast for New Jersey, including winds that could cause power outages, flooding and hail. Here's what to expect:
NEW JERSEY – Severe weather is expected in North Jersey later Thursday with a line of thunderstorm activity and high winds that could impact the region at the start of the weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, saying more widespread showers and thunderstorms storms are expected Thursday. Some storms could be strong to severe, bringing heavy rain that could cause flooding.
The National Weather Service says the winds on Thursday could be potentially damaging and cause power outages. There is also potential for small hail up to quarter-size.

Here is what is expected:
- Showers are likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 5 a.m. Those storms could produce heavy rainfall.
- After a break of several hours, thunderstorms will form again and move into New Jersey by late afternoon, packing 60-mph wind gusts.
- The flood risk is elevated because of saturated ground.

The pattern for the latter part of the week will not be continuous all-day rain but rather conditions generally ranging from brief downpours with thunder to perhaps rain for a few hours, according to AccuWeather.
Embedded within the upcoming shower and thunderstorm system may be small pockets of severe weather, according to AccuWeather.

Thursday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Cloudy, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 4 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 61. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday Night: Scattered thunderstorms before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
