Snow Squall Warning Issued For NJ

Breaking: Drivers may experience dangerous whiteout conditions in New Jersey, the NWS warned.

A snow squall warning has been issued for most of New Jersey, and drivers could experience whiteout conditions, the National Weather Service said.

The warning is in effect through 4:15 p.m. in most areas. Drivers could experience whiteout conditions and the NWS said travel could be dangerous or even life threatening.

A snow squall happens when strong gusts of winds blow snow around. They are similar to blizzard conditions, but don't always result in snow accumulation.

Snow squalls initially moved through Eastern Pennsylvania Wednesday and caused near whiteout conditions, and even prompted a massive multi-car pile up on one area highway.

The squalls are blamed for a multi-car pileup in Berks County. It involved "dozens of vehicles," CBS 21 reported. It's not yet clear if there are any injuries.
