Some Rain, Storms In NJ Mother's Day Weekend Forecast: The Latest

NORTH JERSEY — Mother’s Day is this weekend, which means families in northern New Jersey and across the state will be making plans to spoil Mom with flowers, gifts, picnics and family outings.

But before you make those plans, it’s always a good idea to check what Mother Nature has in store for the day.

In some parts of the United States, including the Philadelphia area, Mother’s Day plans may be hampered by rain, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

A high of 61 and a low of 52 is forecasted for Sunday around norther New Jersey, with intermittent rain likely. The chance of rain is an even 50/50. Expect partly cloudy skies early "followed by increasing clouds with showers developing later in the day," Old Farmer's Almanac says.

The National Weather Service concurs, saying there's a chance of rain after 2 p.m. Before then, expect partly sunny skies, with a high near 62. There is a 40 percent chance of precipitation on Sunday.

If you're celebrating early, be aware that Saturday is expected to be rainy at times. There's a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. The chance of precipitation Saturday is 70 percent.

Here's the local forecast:

• Saturday: Showers likely before 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Saturday Night: A chance of showers before 8 p.m.. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 41. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Sunday: A chance of rain after 2 p.m.. Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Sunday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 8 p.m.. Cloudy, with a low around 46. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
