Special Tributes Planned For Chester Memorial Day Event
Roll Call of Fallen Soldiers, laying of memorial wreaths, patriotic music and a rifle salute, are part of the May 31 ceremony at 11 a.m.
CHESTER, NJ — Officials and residents of both Chester Borough and Township will join together on Monday for Chester’s Annual Memorial Day Commemoration, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Maysey Memorial on Main St. in Chester Borough.
The event will include patriotic music, speeches and inspiring stories to mark the day, then conclude with “Taps” and a rifle salute, to remember members of the military who gave their lives for the United States.
Attendees will gather at the Memorial Park, with Chester Volunteer Fire Company #1, Chester Police, Chester Volunteer First Aid Squad and local scouts, serving in full uniform as color guard.

West Morris Community Band with Director Gary Quam, as well as vocalist Mary Bolio, will be part of the musical tributes for the event.
American Legion Post 342 Chester will lay memorial wreaths during the remembrance ceremony and Rev. Layne Mershimer of the First Congregational Church of Chester, will recite the Roll Call of Chester Fallen Soldiers.

Chester Borough Mayor Janet Hoven will speak during the ceremony, along with Chester Township Mayor Marcia Asdal and members of the American Legion.
