Survey Says: Chester in 2025

Still time for residents to take survey to help develop a 'Community Vision'.

A common theme running through the community is that residents would like a chance to have their voices heard on more issues. The Chester Green Teams are doing just that through a new survey.

The Chester Borough and Chester Township Green Teams are using a 2012 Sustainable Jersey grant to develop a "Community Vision" and identify supporting objectives.

Chester Borough and Chester Township received a $10,000 Sustainable Jersey Small Grant funded by the PSEG Foundation. The winners of the grants have projects that provide sustainable solutions to everyday challenges. Organic curbside waste recycling, storm water runoff solutions, innovative bioswales, water conservation, sustainable landscaping, wildlife interaction plan, community gardens and more have been added to the list of initiatives that the Sustainable Jersey Small Grants program is funding.

The grants were backed by PSEG.

“PSEG is committed to being a steward of the environment and making meaningful contributions to the communities it serves,” said Anne Hoskins, senior vice president of public affairs and sustainability for PSEG. “We are proud to support this program and to fund projects that will make life better in neighborhoods all over New Jersey.”

The plan is for Green Team volunteers will work with the public and community groups to develop a vision statement that could be used in the future by the Borough and the Township to consider policies for addressing sustainability and quality of life enhancements for the two communities.

In the coming weeks the Chester Communities will be invited to express their perspectives and "envision" the future of our Towns through a process known as "Community Visioning," where participants will come together to discuss and arrive at a consensus on a set of aspirations and goals for the years to come.

Chester was originally known as a community built around fertile farmland, important crossroads and iron mines. It has become a waypoint for travelers, a center for antiques and collectibles, agritourism, and a center of commerce.

Looking ahead, the Green Team wants to know what residents envision Chester to look like in 2025.

The aim will be to mine meaningful recommendations can be developed for consideration by the governing bodies. More information on the project can be found on the visioning website and the survey is also online and takes less than ten minutes to complete.
