Where Mendham, Chester Stand In Getting Vaccinated Against COVID

The Mendham-Chester area still has work to do in order to meet the state's goals of getting 70 percent of adults fully vaccinated.

MENDHAM, NJ — The Mendham-Chester area still has work to do in order to meet the state's goals of getting 70 percent of adults fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

For the first time Monday, the New Jersey Department of Health released town-level data on COVID-19 vaccinations. The state's COVID-19 dashboard now reveals the percentage of all people, adults and seniors who have been partially or fully vaccinated in each city and town.

Mendham Borough recently reached 70 percent of adults fully vaccinated — a mark New Jersey officials hope to reach statewide by the end of June. But Mendham Township, Chester Township and Chester Borough are still moving toward the benchmark.

Here's the data in Mendham and Chester:

  • Chester Township population with at least one dose: 50 percent of all ages, 63 percent of adults (18 and older) and 74 percent of seniors (65 and older).
  • Chester Township population fully vaccinated: 41 percent of all ages, 53 percent of adults and 68 percent of seniors.
  • Chester Borough population with at least one dose: 58 percent of all ages, 76 percent of adults and 92 percent of seniors.
  • Chester Borough population fully vaccinated: 49 percent of all ages, 64 percent of adults and 84 percent of seniors.
  • Mendham Township population with at least one dose: 48 percent of all ages, 61 percent of adults and 70 percent of seniors.
  • Mendham Township population fully vaccinated: 40 percent of all ages, 52 percent of adults and 62 percent of seniors.
  • Mendham Borough population with at least one dose: 63 percent of all ages, 81 percent of adults and 96 percent of seniors.
  • Mendham Borough population fully vaccinated: 53 percent of all ages, 70 percent of adults and 90 percent of seniors.

New Jersey set a goal to fully vaccinate 70 percent of adults — 4.7 million people — by the end of June. About 3.6 million people in New Jersey have been fully vaccinated as of Monday afternoon.

All people 16 and older are eligible for vaccination in New Jersey. Sixteen- and 17-year-olds remain eligible for only the Pfizer vaccine. Several vaccine sites — such as the Morris County regional megasite, Rite Aid and CVS — now allow limited walk-ins for COVID-19 vaccines.

The Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use Monday of the Pfizer vaccine for ages 12-15.
