19 MHS Students Top 10 in French in NJ

French Students are awarded for outstanding achievement on the National French exam.

  Millburn students have a grand success in the Grand Concours, the national French exam that is administered annually by the American Association of Teachers of French. Nineteen students placed in the top ten within New Jersey, from Mme. Spear’s, Mme. Changeux’s, and Mr. Rizzuti’s  french classes.

In the Level three divisions, Junior Tatiana Cherne placed 6th in New Jersey, 7th nationally; Freshman Denis Zou placed 10th in New Jersey, 11th nationally; Satyen Gupta placed 8th in New Jersey and 9th nationally, competing in the native speaker division.

In the Level 4 Division, Junior Andrew Brod and Sophomore Chris Li were 1st in New Jersey and 5th in the nation.

The rest of the French 4 class, made up of sophomores, earned high honors as well, with Emily Delgreco and Chris Shim placing 5th in NJ, 9th in the Nation; Justin Grossman and Julia Truitt 6th in NJ, 10th in the nation; Joshua Hochman and Grace Jing were 7th in NJ, 10th in the Nation; Rebecca Blevins was 8th in NJ, 12th in the nation; Flora Sugarman was 9th in NJ, 13th in the nation; Thomas Hunger, Ilana Kamber, and Lauren Maquet-Diafouka were 10th in NJ, 14th in the nation. Junior Dana Ettinger placed 10th in New Jersey and 14th in the nation in the Level Five Category, and Junior Saachi Gupta placed 4th in NJ, 6th in the nation, in the Level Five Native Speaker category, the highest level offered to students.

The National French Exam was administered on March 13 at the Education Center, and was comprised of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and grammar exercises. The NJ Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French will host an awards ceremony and reception at Rutgers University to honor students and their teachers.
