Millburn Cinema Celebrates Dr. Seuss' Birthday

With the opening of The Lorax, the Millburn Cinema will have a scavenger hunt, trivia and costume contests on Saturday.

is celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday today with the opening of The Lorax and on Saturday with crafts, games and contests for the kids.

The doors of the cinema have been painted by employee Elena Khutoretsky, and inside the lobby are displays of Dr. Seuss’s life and books and on saving the environment, the theme of The Lorax.

The theater is also hosting a scavenger hunt and arts and crafts for children, as well as trivia and costume contests and is encouraging children to dress up as their favorite Dr Seuss character, says general manager Samir Shalaby. One winner per show time will win two free passes.

Shalaby said he likes to have fun at the theater promoting some of the movies that come out, getting employees involved in the planning - like with The Lorax and . He also stepped in during the snow days in kids movies, knowing parents needed to find something to do with the kids.

Millburn Cinema is partnering with other downtown merchants,  who will offer a 10 percent discount off their products and services to moviegoers who present their ticket stubs to them. Participating partners are , , , Bedazzled Jewelry, , , , , Toys 'R Us, , , and the .

The theater will also be collecting money for donations to local charitable organizations as well as for the Millburn Fire Department.

"For now it will only be this Saturday, but we'll see how it goes," Shalaby said. "If it does really well, maybe we'll do it next week too. We'll see."
