Cora Hartshorn Announces Spring Programs, Dates

Creatures of the Night, nature mini, "Arb-E-Que" and a camp out at the Arboretum.

The Cora Hartshorn staff has been hard at work ensuring another season filled with educational programs designed for all ages, and it suggested that you sign up now to reserve your spot.

Some programs have been on-going, allowing participants’ experiences to grow over time, and there are several new programs in which you will learn new outdoor skills.  

Check out the following events scheduled throughout the Spring to keep you and your kids outside enjoying nature:

  • On Friday, April 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. the Arboretum’s popular Creatures of the Night is being offered. This program allows you to learn about nocturnal animals by walking the Arboretum trails and visiting Environmental Eagles Club members dressed up as animals. The Environmental Eagles are able to give interesting facts about the animal they represent. A light snack will be provided for your enjoyment.
  • During April Spring break week of the April 22-26, the Arboretum is offering a nature mini camp for children aged 3 to 10-years-old. Children will be divided into appropriate age groups to enjoy the outdoors and learn about the environment. There will be arts and crafts, songs, games, stories and outdoor discoveries. There is a full day option for option for 6 to 10 year olds. 
  • On Saturday, May 4, the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum is hosting its Third annual “Arb-E-Que” fund raiser to commemorate Arbor Day. The event is scheduled for 11 am to 2 pm and will include food by Famous Dave’s Barbecue, crafts and games for kids, a family photo-op and frame craft, a Delaware Valley Raptor Center Presentation, a honey bee demonstration, ecofriendly products for sale and much more. All are invited to pick up their free tree donated by the Arboretum. Remember, more than ever the future of our planet depends on the environmental education we provide to our children today.
  • On May 4-5, camp out at the Arboretum. Families can experience camping out with the assistance of the Arboretum staff. Why not try out camping without making a long commute to the country? You can stay locally on our 16 acre woodlands.
  • On May 18, you can take a leisurely two hour paddle through the Hackensack River with an experienced guide. In addition to sightseeing and wildlife watching, you will learn about the natural and human history that has shaped the region.
