Fitness Center In Short Hills Closes After 6 Years

The popular gym closed as of Saturday: "With the events of the past year, it is simply not feasible to continue."

MILLBURN, NJ — A popular fitness center in the Short Hills section of Millburn announced last week that Saturday would be its last day, as it was too hard to survive the pandemic.

In a unique story, two of the members had purchased the gym — formerly known as CanDo — back in 2015 and rebranded it as YB Fitness. But now its six-year run has come to an end.

Alex Crispo, the president of the gym on Morris Turnpike, wrote on Facebook and on the website on Wednesday:

"Dear YB Community: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of YB Fitness. After six terrific years serving as a home away from home for our clients, friends, and staff, we are sorry to share this news with you all. This business was much more a labor of love than it ever was a lucrative business, and unfortunately, with the events of the past year, it is simply not feasible to continue."

Customers had heavy hearts too. Some said they were members back to the CanDo days.

Others said they were getting ready to return after being vaccinated.

"A member pre YB, I lived there every day and loved all the classes [and] trainers," wrote a customer. "I was hoping to return after being fully vaccinated."

"Understandable but sad to hear," wrote another. "YB helped me start my fitness journey. The instructors and trainers really did make it feel like family."

Over the years, they collected coats and participated in other community events.

The health club was located at 750 Morris Turnpike.
