Five Millburn Runners Compete in National Junior Olympics

Township runners travel to South Carolina to compete in the Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships.

Five student athletes with the Millburn Recreation Department Cross Country Team raced in the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships earlier this month in Myrtle Beach, S. C.

Millburn competed with several local township teams through the fall season at tri and dual meets and with teams from 10 other townships at the weekly Lakeland League Race Series. Nine Millburn runners qualified to represent Millburn as part of the Lakeland League Team in both state and then regional USATF Junior Olympic Championships: Nicole Cavender, Katie Delidow, Sam Eisner, Reid Fitzsimons, Matthew Grossman, William Meyer, Cormac Seyfried, Christopher Stone and Daniel Sullivan.  

Five Millburn runners qualified at regionals to compete at the national championships along with 2,369 of the top youth cross country runners from around the United States. Individual results at nationals:

Reid Fitzsimons:  9-10 year old boys 3K, 13:08.44, 184 of 224.

Nicole Cavender:  11-12 year old girls 3K, 12:16.17, 157 of 251.

Katie Delidow:  13-14 year old girls 4K, 18:30.99, 246 of 261.

Matthew Grossman:  13-14 year old boys 4K, 15:32.09, 254 of 305.

Christopher Stone:  13-14 year old boys 4K, 14:03.29, 107 of 305.

The 2011 Millburn Recreation Cross Country Team was coached by Page Seyfried and had 70 student members. The team's web address is: runmillburn.org.
