Late Millburn High School Senior To Be Honored Wednesday

Attendees at Wednesday night's lacrosse game will be part of a tribute to late senior Robbie Almgren, who died suddenly in December.

MILLBURN, NJ — Attendees at Wednesday night's lacrosse games at Millburn High School will be part of a tribute to late senior Robert Eric Almgren III, a former lacrosse player who died suddenly just after Christmas 2020 of previously undiagnosed AML Leukemia.

The tribute to Almgren is set to take place between the junior varsity game, which starts at 4 p.m., and the varsity game, said the organizer of a scholarship dedicated to Almgren. Senior Night will be celebrated afterward.

Meanwhile, the Robbie Eric Almgren III Award, a new scholarship, has raised almost $100,000, said a family friend. The award will be given out each year at the annual lacrosse banquet to the player that best embodies Robbie’s character, said family friend Randy Faust.

"His love of sports continued throughout high school where he played basketball, football, and lacrosse for the MHS Millers," noted his obituary in December. "He also played for NJ Riot Club lacrosse. He thoroughly enjoyed the friendships and the camaraderie of all of his teammates. Robbie’s interests did not end there...."
