ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Maplewood Glee Club will present its first virtual concert on Saturday.

The nearly 75-year-old group said, "We've put together an hour-long, family-friendly program of new songs, seasonal classics, special guests, even a Top 5 Countdown of our favorite past performances, and you can watch it all from the comfort of your home."

The "Holiday at Home" concert premieres Dec. 19 at 5 p.m.

The group describes themselves as "Men who sing. We are a group of avid singers in central New Jersey who perform two main concerts a year and hold an annual scholarship competition for high school seniors intending to pursue the study of music. The present membership is composed of men from all walks of life who reside in Maplewood and surrounding communities. Our group is about fun, fellowship, good singing, and community."

The club includes men from, besides Maplewood, "the local surrounding communities including Millburn, Short Hills, Summit, Chatham, and more!"

History

The Club was founded in 1946 as an Auxiliary of Post No.80 of the American Legion. Through dedication and hard work, the Club soon gained its independence as a private men's glee club. Along our route to recognition, the Township of Maplewood adopted our cause, and in 1964, the Maplewood Community Recreation Service became our sponsor.

In 1968, The Maplewood Recreation Department took over as our official sponsor. We are most appreciative of their constant support, including their provision of a weekly rehearsal facility.
