MHS Grad 'Player of the Week' in Loyola's Conference

Sabrina Fedele went undefeated last week in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Three years out of high school and Millburn Tennis star is still hard to beat.

Loyola University Maryland sophomore Fedele of Short Hills was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday after going a combined 8-0 in singles and doubles play last week.

Fedele, a 2009 MHS Graduate with a school career record of 73-11, helped the Loyola Greyhounds to a 4-0 week, going undefeated in both singles and doubles matches. She combined with partner Tiffany Ash to go 4-0 in doubles matches for the week as the pair won against Catholic University, 8-2, and followed that with a, 6-1, 6-1, win over La Salle’s team. They also combined for a, 6-3, 6-1, to help Loyola to a win in the team’s conference opener over Niagara.

In singles play, Fedele dropped just one set while going 4-0 in the No. 3 slot. She started the week with a, 6-0, 6-0, sweep over Catholic University, and then came from behind after losing the first set at La Salle to win, 3-6, 6-0, 8-1.

Against Niagara, Fedele came up with the match-clinching point, going 6-2, 6-3. Finally, Fedele beat Robert Morris’ Samatha Alves, 6-3, 6-4, to help Loyola to its 26th straight season with 10 or more wins.
