MHS Math Team Tops in Essex County
Millburn's math students competed against 14 districts in this year's Essex County Math League Competition
For the first time in 23 years, Millburn math students upset Livingston to take First Place in the Essex County Math League Competition.
Millburn Math students earned top honors in competition at Caldwell College on Wednesday, May 23. The team tied with Livingston for first place overall and took home the trophy. The team consists of math students from both Millburn High School and Millburn Middle School.
Student teams won first place in Algebra 1 (an 8th grade team from Millburn Middle School), Algebra II, Advanced Math, and Calculus. They took 2nd place in Geometry and 3rd in Statistics.

The top individual scorers, all of whom took home trophies, are: Calculus: Daniel Aronskind, 1st place; Algebra II: Ben Dantowitz, Josh Hochman and Chris Li, all with perfect scores tied for 1st place; Algebra I: 8th graders Arjun Gupta, Wesley Hu, Yanjun Yang, and Michael Tai tied for 1st place with perfect scores; Advanced Math: Ethan Kramer, Sam Liu and Hannah Park, tied for 2nd place; and in Geometry: Yi Wang, 3rd Place.
The Math Team students are:Â Geometry: George Jiang, Angela Jin, Jaron Li, David Neiman and Yi Wang; Â Algebra 2: Ben Dantowitz, Alex Guevara, Josh Hochman, Chris Li, Maurice Wong; Calculus: Dan Aronskind, Sahil Gupta, Jake Kaufman, Jeffrey Lai, Chanthia Ma; Statistics: Dan Dembner, Jiayun Fang, Max Silberman, Anmol Sinho, Yang Yi; Advanced Math: Sunny Chang, Ethan Kramer, Chris Lim, Sam Liu, Hannah Park. Â Millburn Middle School 8th grade students make up the Algebra 1 team:Â Colin Jiang, Michael Tai, Yanjun Yang, Arjun Gupta and Wesley Hu.

Fourteen school districts participated in this year’s Essex County Math League Competition which consists of a 50-minute written examination. Millburn advisors are High School math teachers Grant Kolmer and Jill Ricci, and Middle School 8th grade math teacher Peg Seifer.
