Millburn Baseball Wins First SEC American Division Championship

The Miller's win over Nutley Monday gives the school its first Super Essex Conference American Division Championship

The Millburn High School's varsity baseball team's 9-3 win over Nutley Monday lifted the Millers to its first Super Essex Conference American Division Championship.

Winning pitcher Evy Ruibal helped his own cause with a grand slam home run that finished off Millburn's victory in Nutley.The victory lifted Millburn to 18-4.

Millburn last won a conference championship in baseball in 2008 when the school competed in the Northern Hills Conference. The Super Essex Conference was created in 2010 and Seton Hall Prep had won the league title in each of the past three seasons. Millburn concluded its conference schedule with a 13-1 record. Seton Hall Prep finished second at 12-2.

Ruibal improved to 4-1 on the mound this spring. He pitched the first five innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six against zero walks. Senior Ian Riddell threw the final two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season. 

Millburn led, 5-3, entering the seventh inning before Ruibal launched his grand slam into the busy Nutley downtown area where the ball struck a car on Franklin Avenue. Leadoff man Aidan Favia, who scored on Ruibal's homer, finished with two hits and scored two runs for Millburn.

The Millers are back in action on Friday afternoon when they travel to East Brunswick for a 4:15 game.
