Millburn Baseball Finishes Out Season

The Millburn freshman team finished its season 12-5 by splitting the last two games.

In their final two games, the Millburn Miller freshman team lost to Delbarton at home on Friday, May 17, 8-3, and won their last game by mercying Belleville in 5 innings, 11-1, on May 18 at Belleville.

The freshman team finished their season 12-5.

The Millers and Delbarton started out evenly, each scoring one run in the 1st inning, Millburn’s on a sacrifice fly by Matt Jacob.  Delbarton scored 3 more in the 3rd inning, and Millburn stayed close, scoring 2 on a double from Ryan Adelman and a triple from Nick Minter.  Delbarton pulled ahead, scoring 2 more in the 5th inning, despite a strike out by starting pitcher, Jake Sauberman.  Sam Nacht came in to pitch in the 6th inning, with a 1, 2, 3 inning, striking out two batters and inducing a pop fly to second baseman, Dean Schweinler.  The Freshmen could not garner enough offense to overtake Delbarton.  Schweinler came in for the 7th inning to pitch and 2 more runs were scored by Delbarton.

The next day against Belleville, Brian Lannino did not allow them to get anything  offensive going.  He allowed only one earned run, walked none and struck out four, during his 4 innings of work.

The Freshmen took the lead in the 1st inning, scoring one run on a single by Nick Minter and a sacrifice fly by Matt Jacob.  Two additional runs were scored in the 3rd inning with a single from Dean Schweinler and some heads up base running by Schweinler and Dan Antselevich.  Belleville’s sole run was scored in the 3rd inning, to make the score 3-1.   Millburn went up 4-1 in the 4th inning on singles from Daniel Stern and Cole Paulson.  Millburn’s hitting exploded in the 5th inning, scoring 7 runs on doubles from Matt Jacob and Nick Minter and singles from Max Lincer, Brian Lannino, Dean Schweinler and Dan Antselevich.

Belleville had no answer to the Millburn Freshmen, and Marc Lincer  pitched the final inning, helping himself with a fielder’s choice to his brother, Max Lincer, for the out at 3rd.  The final  two outs were made by shortstop, Ryan Adelman, flipping it to second baseman, Dean Schwienler, who got it quickly to first baseman, Matt Jacob, for the double play.
