Millburn High Boys Tennis Comes Up Aces Again This Season
Millers capture third straight Tournament of Champions title to cap 29-2 campaign.
The Millburn High boys tennis team once again proved this spring they are the kings of the court in New Jersey.
The Millers captured their third straight Tournament of Champions title, sixth consecutive Group 4 crown and an unprecedented 29th straight sectional championship en route to a sparkling 29-2 record this spring.
The team was led by its four senior captains, Jon Duan (23-4), Jason Ginsburg (25-2) and the doubles tandem of Evan Imegwu and Keith Knopp (26-6).
Junior Tyler Schick finished the season 34-1 at the No. 1 singles position and reached the state singles tournament final and was named a high school All-American.
Coach William Wickenheisser also pointed to the emergent seasons of junior Jonathan Atwater, who went 23-6 at second singles, junior Alex Shedlin, who compiled an 11-1 record at first doubles, and sophomore Darren Ting's performance at third singles as key contributions to the team's success.
Millburn's two losses on the season came in the final of the Newark Academy Invitational to Pennsylvania's Episcopal Academy and to Newark Academy in the Essex County Tournament final.
The Millburn tennis team was comprised of:Â Seniors Captain Jonathan Duan, Captain Jason Ginsburg, Captain Evan Imegwu and Captain Keith Knopp; Juniors Jake Aronskind, Jonathan Atwater, Will Besen, Tyler Schick and Alex Shedlin; and Sophomores Jeremy Atwater, Jordan Beacham, Austin Jia and Darren Ting and Freshmen Jeremy Bader and Charlie Shanker.
