Millburn High Boys Tennis Team Wins State Championship, Earns Honors

The Millburn High School Boys Varsity Tennis Team finished their season with a record of 22 match victories and 6 losses.

From Essex Co. Board of Chosen Freeholders: During a special presentation held at the Caldwell Town Hall in Caldwell, New Jersey, on June 21, 2017, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored the Millburn High School Varsity Boys Tennis Team for winning the 2017 NJSIAA North II, Group III State Championship.

Freeholder At-Large Patricia Sebold and District 4 Freeholder Leonard M. Luciano presented a Commendation to the team in celebration of their championship victory. Freeholder Luciano and Freeholder Sebold congratulated the team for their success and encouraged the players to continue to strive for excellence. Coach Bill Wickenheisser accepted the Commendation on behalf of the team and thanked the Freeholders for their support.

The Millburn High School Boys Varsity Tennis Team won the 2017 NJSIAA North II, Group III State Championship, their 25th overall Group Championship Title, when they defeated Northern Highlands High School (5-0), on May 24, 2017. The team first defeated Colts Neck High School (5-0), in state tournament play and went on to defeat Summit High School (5-0), and West Windsor-Plainsboro North High School (4-1), to win the North II, Group III State Sectional Championship for the 32nd consecutive time and 42nd time overall.

The Millers went on to defeat Moorestown High School (4-1), before capturing the State Championship Title with a match victory over Northern Highlands High School (5-0). By virtue of capturing the State Championship, the team also participated in the Tournament of Champions where they defeated Holmdel High School, the Group II State Champions, (4-1), before falling short in the semifinals match with Newark Academy.

The Millburn High School Boys Varsity Tennis Team finished their season with a record of 22 match victories and 6 losses, during which they finished as Essex County Champions and #2 in the Super Essex Conference, American Division.

The team is comprised of the following members: Seniors: Jason Dresner, Jordan Haber, Alex Hou, Andrew Jacobs, Marco Mihaljovic, and Jon Murray; Juniors: Justin Aaron, Jai Bansal, Alan Gu, Gary Hua, Alex Jacobs, Ethan Legow, Mike Mirsky, and Bryan Schick; Sophomores: Jean Germa, Matthew Phi, and David Sternlieb; and Freshman: Austin Peng.

The team was coached by Bill Wickenheisser, Rob Elia, and Lee Robinson and received administrative support from Superintendent Dr. Christine Burton, Principal Dr. William Miron, Vice Principals Dr. Donna Gallo and Dr. Robert Keenan, and Athletic Director Francesco Bifulco.
