Millburn High School Freshman Raises Funds to Support Girls
Mae Maddox creates Girls Awareness Club and raises funds on International Day of Girl

The future is in the strength of girls being raised with the right morals, education, and belief systems. Girls want to feel independent, understood and most of all, safe, all over the world.
Being inspired by the news, the current culture climate, and her own community, Millburn High School freshman, Mae Maddox, 14, launched the Girls Awareness Club in the High School to support charities for girls against discrimination and sexual harassment.
October 11 being the International Day of Girl, Maddox, along with fellow classmates hosted a bake sale to raise money for Girls Not Brides (www.girlsnotbrides.org), a global partnership of more than 1000 civil society organizations from over 95 countries committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfil their potential.

According to the UN, “The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.”
“We feel empowered because we get to combine our two favorite things in order to help girls feel safe and heard,” said Maddox who raised $150 during her club’s first bake sale in a few hours.
